The SP Carbon Sole® provides a direct interface between the Speedplay cleat and the shoe, and is specifically engineered for high-performance, high-mileage cyclists, with tremendous stiffness and an anatomically precise footbed for maximum power transfer. The SP sole now features a NEW ultra-light heelpad.


Like all of SIDI’s hand-lay-up carbon soles, the SP Carbon Sole® is constructed in an Italian contract facility that specializes in carbon fiber fabrication, and includes speed merchants Ferrari and Ducati on its client list. It is handmade exclusively of T700 carbon fiber in a 3k weave pattern (competitors’ carbon soles have little carbon fiber content, or use cheaper, lower-modulus T300 carbon fiber), oriented at opposing angles that maximize stiffness while allowing for a small degree of controlled flex in the toe area that biomechanically relieves stress on the plantar tendon and helps promote circulation. The sole is heat- and compression-molded with longitudinal corrugations that improve mechanical stiffness without added material or weight.


The SP Carbon Sole® is incredibly stiff, deflecting only 1.5 mm in SIDI’s rigidity test, in which a 50 kg (110 lb) weight is suspended from one end of the sole.

• Soft Instep Closure System®
The Soft Instep Closure System® is a wide, anatomically curved strap combined with a soft, thermo-formed EVA pad that distributes pressure evenly over the instep area.


The Soft Instep Closure System® is adjustable from both sides, to perfectly center the EVA pad over a high or low instep. Excess strap on the crank arm (inside) side of the shoe may be trimmed after adjustment. Like most SIDI small parts, the Soft Instep Closure System® is replaceable.


• Caliper Buckle

By 1988, clipless road pedals had become the norm, and this presented a new problem—shoe closures were put under tremendous strain, as a pedal stroke’s upward pull had to be entirely absorbed by the shoe without the additional support of a toe strap.


Dino Signori’s solution was as revolutionary as it was genius: In 1989, he introduced the first ratcheting buckle closure for cycling shoes, combining the robust holding power and on-the-fly adjustability of toe straps with the strength to withstand the powerful, repetitive pedal stroke of professional racers. It was the SIDI Micro Lock, the first micro-ratcheting buckle.


The current Caliper Buckle is the latest incarnation of SIDI’s famed ratcheting shoe closure. It ratchets in both directions, allowing for precise, incremental tightening and loosening of the closure, for easy on-the-fly microadjustment. Pulling upward on the lower lever tightens the strap, click by click; pressing down on the upper lever loosens it a step at a time; an outward pull on both side levers completely releases the buckle.


Caliper buckles may be retrofitted to older SIDIs, as long as the ratcheting strap is also replaced by the matching Caliper Strap (which fits older versions of the Soft Instep Closure System®).


• High Security Velcro®
In 2002 SIDI introduced High Security Velcro® (globally patented), with interlocking polymer teeth that engage when the strap is closed to provide a more secure, slip-free closure that dramatically increases the useful life of the Velcro® strap. Today High Security Velcro® remains an exclusive feature of SIDI cycling shoes.



• Adjustable Heel Security System® (HSS)
The Adjustable HSS®, introduced in 2006, reinforces the top of the heel cup and adjusts to securely close around the heel just above the calcaneus (heel bone), eliminating power-robbing heel lift during the pedal stroke.


Like most SIDI small parts, the Adjustable HSS® is replaceable, and also available as an aftermarket upgrade to 2007 thru 2009 SIDI models.


• Technomicro

Technomicro is a composite microfiber material created from strands that are so fine that each one is less than one thousandth the thickness of silk. These fibers act like natural leather skin, but with the advantage of better strength, softer texture and lighter weight. Technomicro is also water-repellent, quick-drying, breathable and permeable to water vapor, making it an ideal material for shoe uppers. It is abrasion- and mildew-resistant, easier to clean than leather and resists stretching and deterioration from atmospheric agents.


• Sidi Heel Cup
The SIDI Heel Cup is an external, reinforced cup that stabilizes and supports the heel, with an anatomically shaped plastic design holds its form and doesn’t break down over time, helping reduce heel slip and increase power transfer.
